An impossible situation, all the better if you have ridden a bike with a repayment at the end. A good read

Absolutely, I wish the best to any car driver trying to keep up with a Triumph or (as it was originally written) a Kawasaki TomCat.

Richard Matheson's story/screenplay "Duel" was much on my mind reading this- I'm sure you took a cue from it likewise.

I haven't seen / read Duel or Christine, but it was very much influenced by what I imagine Christine to be like.

So, is that the laziest form of derivation? Basing a story on a movie you haven't got around to watching?

If so, I have definitely hit my creative nadir.

No- the laziest form of derivation is actually stealing the plot verbatim of anything you have read and seen. You didn’t do that- you just transferred an idea that originated in America over to Britain. No shame in that.

Thank you, I'll take that as a compliment!

Actually, having checked IMDb, I'm certain I have either seen Duel or a movie very close to it, but at least a decade ago.
