Greetings, my wicked darlings!
Ah, January. Named after the Roman god Janus, who had one face looking forward and one face looking back. He was the god of transitions, be it the seasons or your life.
December was the first month of having a paid subscriber tier, and my paid subscribers got to read three new short stories.
Buried
The Thing in the Grain House
Faster On The Way Down
These will be made available to free subscribers in three to four months, but as always, the best way to view new content on this platform remains via a paid subscription. Plus, you get to revel in the knowledge that you are supporting a literary newt in his work. I really appreciate the support.
Free subscribers got to read the following stories / articles:
And in January, free subscribers will get to read:
Mind Games
The Black Fog
The Girl in the Glass
Further changes in my life happened when I tendered my resignation with the HWA. With my increased writing commitments, and my work as chairman of the British Horror Author’s Guild, I just do not have the time in my working day to run the HWA UK chapter as well.
I have had a monumental time working there and truly cherished the opportunity to raise it from the ashes and bring it back to life, gaining over a thousand subscribers during my tenure. The interviews I hosted were tremendous fun, and I was privileged to speak to such fantastic guests. I leave it in the hands of Bronte and Terri and will be there for 30 days to offer a handover to my successor.
I guess we are certain to see more Tales of the Macabre now. I blame Ash entirely, as he introduced me to the 52 short stories in 52 weeks challenge. Don’t worry, I will publish all (of the good ones) on here!
That was a remarkably solemn update. I blame Dry January for the utter lack of tomfoolery, but I assure you I have plans for mischief too.
Sweet Screams,
Newt xx

Recommended Horror Books
I read seven books in December. My top three were:
Haunted: Mother Death by Lee Mountford. Lee is an absolute master at taking the mundane and transforming it into terror. Mother Death is a brilliant concept, and I raced through this fast-paced terror. It was excellent seeing the B-Team back in action again.
The Rats by James Herbert. It’s not the first time I’ve read this book, but after a decade I needed to reread it. I don’t know if I remember it being more explicit, or if it has been censored, but it remains a masterpiece with some massive Marvelesque scenes that were way ahead of their time.
Haunted: Possession by Lee Mountford. Possession is nine-tenths of the law. Especially if you are in an ancient cathedral in the Czech Republic. This was the turning point in the series where the plot turned from being villain of the week to exposing a much bigger threat.
