Greetings, my wicked darlings!
COVID! How dare you! I picked it up, far too late to be cool. Apparently, it’s still a thing.
Although, as a writer of gothic horror, perhaps it should be CORVID?
Regardless, I spent nine days under a duvet, emerging only two hours a day to walk the woofer. Which delayed my writing somewhat, but luckily I was ahead of myself.
In January, we kicked off the first month of 2026 with a bang, with free subscribers receiving ‘12 Minutes’, ‘Mind Games’, ‘The Black Fog’ and ‘The Girl in the Glass.’
Paid subscribers got all those, along with Leprechaun and Barghest.
And in February, free subscribers will get to read:
The Green Man
The Sinful Child
The Catfish Killer
I’ve just finished writing up the newsletter for the British Horror Author’s Guild. Including an article on the business aspects of publishing a debut book.
Sweet Screams,
Newt xx

February
Brides of Darkness: Trev learns the hard way that when a FetLife profile name says ‘Read my profile, pls.’ you should probably do that.
The Penitent Man: Father O’Sullivan finds that buried secrets have a habit of resurfacing.
One Mystery Story. (Let’s be honest, it’s probably going to be a messy one. I’m on a murder kick at the moment.)

Recommended Horror Books
I read eight books in January. My top three were:
Haunted: End of Days by Lee Mountford. An absolutely fantastic conclusion to the series. Lee Mountford is a phenomenal writer. My man is currently churning through the series as well. I absolutely must talk to Lee about appearing on HAG Chat for the British Horror Author’s Guild.
Troy: Lord of the Silver Bow by David Gemmell. It is a constant source of disappointment to me that I never met David. He inspired me to write. I read all of his books as a teen and still reread them. Troy I put off for a long time, as it was the series he died writing, but I was wrong to wait. It is an absolute page turner, with characters you cannot help but love.
The Atrocity Archives by Charles Stross. Ah, what a classic. As a man who has spent eight years working in the civil service, The Atrocity Archives suffers from being excessively relatable. I started rereading the series now that it has been completed with the fourteenth and final entry, The Regicide Report.
